Frequently Asked Questions about Certification
Why do I have to apply to my state? Is CPRP a state certification?
No, CPRP is a national certification. Some time ago, NRPA gave certain state affiliates the authority to administer this certification program on NRPA’s behalf; currently, NRPA is transitioning CPRP certification to its National Office. See the next FAQ for more details.
I have heard that NRPA is centralizing the CPRP certification process and bringing certification records of the state affiliates back to the NRPA National Office. How does this affect me?
It affects where you send your applications and where you make your enquiries. In 2007, NRPA began to centralize the CPRP certification process and transfer all certification records held by state affiliates to the National Office. This transition is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2010. At this moment for instance, 22 state affiliates are administering certifications and keeping records, but that number is constantly being reduced as more states complete the record transfer to NRPA National Office. To determine whether your certification is still administered by a state affiliate or has been transitioned to the National Office, go to the list located here; this list is continually revised.
