Cultural Competence Skill Building

Increase your ability to effectively engage diverse communities. This interactive training provides a foundation for building individual and organizational cultural competence skills. Participate in exercises that help us get beyond cultural festivals and PC language to transforming our organizations to genuinely serve all members of our community. Walk away with resources and tools that can be used immediately.
GOALS
- Gain a common understanding of cultural competence
- Increase our self-awareness, knowledge of cultural differences, and understanding of privilege and oppression
- Practice applying cultural competence in our daily work
- Create an action plan to transfer learning beyond the session.
Facilitator
Our workshop facilitator is Heidi K. Schillinger, MSW, founder and principal of Equity Matters, a Seattle-based organization that focuses on working to facilitate social, racial, and environmental justice.
Heidi has over 10 years experience working with diverse communities, agencies and institutions in addressing issues such as cultural competence, equity, privilege and oppression, and inclusive community engagement.
Heidi received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Asian Studies from St. Olaf College, and her Master’s of Social Work, with an emphasis in Multi-Ethnic Practice, from the University of Washington.
